The Most Surprising Things You Searched for on the Internet in Health This Year

We turn to the Web to search for all of the questions we're too embarrassed to ask. Does my poop look normal? How much sex is too much sex? And how many calories are in the slice of pizza I'm about to eat? Our friends at Google and Yahoo just released the top searches in food, fitness, and health from 2014. Many of the top searches are no brainers: We're all still crazy about the Paleo diet and juice cleanses. But there were plenty of searches that left us scratching our heads. Like these:

The Most Surprising Search Terms From 2014

1 / 10

Atkins Diet

A decade after it took the nation by storm, the Atkins Diet is back on top, coming in as the second most searched diet on Google in the past year-just behind the ever-popular Paleo Diet. We can thank Kim Kardashian, who used to diet to lose weight after giving birth to North West, for Atkins' resurgence. But it's doubtful Atkins will ever be as popular as it was in the early 2000s when one in 11 Americans followed the diet.

South Beach Diet

We thought the South Beach Diet went out of style with bucket hats in the early 2000s. But what goes around really does come around again-and both floppy hats and this low-carb diet are trendy again. South Beach came in at number eight on the list of the top 10 diet searches on Google this year.So break out those snack bars and shakes and party like it's 2004.

How many calories are in a banana?

There are so many things you can do with bananas. For example, making stuffed French toast, smoothies, and even delicious sorbet-like desserts. But it turns out we all just want to know how many calories are in our favorite yellow fruit-it was the top searched calorie query on Google in 2014. And, if you're wondering, the average banana clocks in at 105 calories.

How many calories are in a Big Mac?

There are more burger options than ever before from the greasy goodness at Five Guys to the all-natural grass-fed burger now available at Carl's Jr. But most of us just want to know how many calories we'll be consuming when stepping inside the Golden Arches. The answer: 550 calories if you get just the Big Mac, which was the seventh most searched calorie question on Google in 2014.

Colon Cleanse

It seems like we get a special offer for a juice cleanse in our inbox everyday. So we were surprised that colonics topped the list of cleanses searched by Yahoo users this year. The science behind the effectiveness of colon cleanses is iffy at best, but that doesn't stop them from being wildly popular.

6 / 10

Liver Cleanse

We know firsthand the power of cutting alcohol out of our diet-and giving our liver a rest. But we were still surprised that liver cleanses came in as the second most searched cleanse on Yahoo. The liver naturally detoxifies itself-unless you're giving frat bros a run for their money with your drinking habit.

Banana Bread

We already know you want to know how many calories are in bananas. Now you want to know how to make banana bread-it was the top searched recipe on Yahoo this year! And we can't say we blame you. The oozy-gooey texture of just-out-of-the-oven banana bread can't be beat.

When we think of meatloaf, we conjure up images of dinner tables from the Mad Men era-or the '70s rock star. But the mound of meat shaped like a loaf of bread is back by popular demand-it was the third most searched recipe on Yahoo-and it has gotten fancy.

9 / 10

We haven't thought about Playdough since we were young enough to count our age on one hand, but apparently plenty of you have been searching for it. Playdough was the third most searched DIY term on Yahoo. And after seeing the amazing works of art our friends at BuzzFeed made, we have to say we're converts. It's the perfect craft activity for all ages.

It looks like we've got a bunch of amateur horror movie directors on our hands. Fake blood came in at number four on the list of top searched DIY terms on Yahoo. Just mix water, corn syrup, food coloring, and maple syrup, and then wait for the concerned looks on your friends' faces.
